What happens when you merge ‘Star Wars,’ ‘Indiana Jones,’ ‘The Matix’ and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ in 17th century France? You get Paul W. S. Anderson’s ‘The Three Musketeers,’ a wild romp of an adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’ classic novel that just might make the French author roll over in his grave.
Check out the new trailer for the Summit Entertainment actioner, which will hit theaters Oct. 14: Along with the intrigue and requisite sword fights, there’s aerial fights with floating blimps, secret passageways, tons of explosions, kung fu action and Milla Jovovich as a nasty assassin. Anderson is not new to this stuff: He’s directed wife Jovovich in two ‘Resident Evil’ films and has helmed ‘AVP: Alien vs. Predator,’ ‘Death Race’ and ‘Event Horizon.’
The movie stars Matthew Macfadyen (‘Frost/Nixon’) as Athos, Logan Lerman (‘Percy Jackson’) as D’Artagnan, Ray Stevenson (‘Punisher: War Zone’) as Porthos and Luke Evans (‘Tamara Drewe’) as Aramis. Christoph Waltz, Mads Mikkelsen and Orlando Bloom join in the fun.
Here’s the logline for the film: The hot-headed young D’Artagnan along with three former legendary but now down on their luck Musketeers must unite and defeat a beautiful double agent and her villainous employer from seizing the French throne and engulfing Europe in war.
