‘Agents of SHIELD’: SkyeWard fans will be ‘satisfied,’ says Brett Dalton

agents-of-shield-brett-dalton-chloe-bennet-skyeward-abc.jpgOne big surprise towards the end of “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” episode 15 “Yes Men” was the revelation that Ward is not in love with May, but instead another female warrioress on their team — namely, Skye. Considering the SkyeWard pairing is one fans have been rooting for since the show’s pilot, it’s understandable why they would get excited about this reveal.

Of course, Ward didn’t realize that he had told Lorelei about his feelings for another woman, though it did seem to be enough to cause May to leave him (of course, May has that whole being-a-mole thing to keep herself busy too). So can viewers expect more SkyeWard action coming up?

“I do think fans of the hashtag ‘SkyeWard’ will be satisfied,” Brett Dalton tells Zap2it at the “Agents of SHIELD” PaleyFest red carpet.

He plays coy when asked which of the characters he ‘ships Ward ending up with. Ward currently has slept with May and Lorelei and — apparently — has feelings for Skye, and Dalton hedges, “There’s not a bad choice.”

He did offer as good a tease as he could give of what might draw Ward and Skye together in “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD’s” final seven episodes of Season 1.

“I think that what May and I had was kind of a sense of understanding between two people who have similar jobs,” Dalton says. “I think there’s a different understanding between Ward and Skye. Neither one of them has met anyone like the other one, and that’s something different and very special. So they’re just different.”

Meanwhile, Chloe Bennet teases that tough times might be ahead on the road to SkyeWard happiness. “I think couples, even if they’re soulmates, they’re going to go through some stuff,” she tells Zap2it. “We’ll see what happens. I’m still a SkyeWard ‘shipper. Love is difficult and love is confusing and s*** happens, so you never know.”

“Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” returns on April 1 with the episode “End of the Beginning” on ABC at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
