Ben Wheatley is about to direct the sequel to 2018 monster film “The Meg” for Warner Bros., based on a person with information of the mission.
“The Meg” centered on a prehistoric Megalodon shark, extinct for two million years, that may chomp whales in half. Jason Statham starred within the first movie as a shark professional and is anticipated to return for the sequel.
Screenwriters Jon and Erich Hoeber wrote the newest draft of the script based mostly off an preliminary draft by Dean Georgaris. All three shared credit score on the primary movie which tailored the novel by Steve Alten.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Belle Avery are returning as producers on the sequel. Catherine Ying, Li Ruigang, E Bennett Walsh, Gerald Molen and Randy Greenberg are the chief producers.
TheWrap’s Alonso Duralde, in his assessment of “The Meg” mentioned, “The film certainly nails its visual effects, particularly since they pretty much all occur in and around water. There’s a tangible menace to the Meg, and never a moment where clumsy compositing or animation spoils a scene. And since the creature is so realistic, those moments where it comes charging at our heroes, or sweeping through a crowded sandbar, deliver the kind of chills that you want from a movie like this.”
Wheatley replaces director Jon Turteltaub, who directed the primary movie. “The Meg” was a field workplace hit which earned $530.three million worldwide.
Wheatley most not too long ago directed “Rebecca” for Netflix, which was launched on the streamer this week and stars Lily James and Kristin Scott Thomas.
Ben Wheatley is repped by WME and Independent Talent Group.
The Hollywood Reporter first reported the information.
