The Emmys’ “In Memoriam” segment is meant to honor those in the entertainment industry who passed away in the last year.
Last night, Tori Kelly performed “Hallelujah” as photos of David Bowie, Prince, Merle Haggard, Gene Wilder, Natalie Cole and more flashed across the screen. As seems to be the case year after year, not every fallen star was represented in the “In Memoriam” segment. Fans ofChristina Grimmie, a former contestant on The Voice who was tragically killed in June, were particularly vocal about the singer’s absence from the 2016 Emmys tribute.
The late vocalist’s fans took to Twitter to react to the snub.
Others noted that The Voice, which launched Grimmie to stardom, won an Emmy for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program.
Grimmie was not the only fallen star who absent from this year’s “In Memoriam” segment: Former WWE star Chyna, Ice Road Truckers star Darrell Ward and Earth Wind & Fire‘s Maurice White were missing as well.
