“Fear the Walking Dead” ended its second season with a big two-hour episode, but the true cliffhanger that will leave fans talking happened halfway through.
After deciding to split from his dad and take the road with a pair of dangerous guys they met along the way, Chris (Lorenzo James Henrie) is dead — at least that’s what the show wants you to believe. It played out in an odd way, with the men Chris was with arriving at the resort, claiming he was killed in a car accident.
Travis (Cliff Curtis) quickly saw through their lie though and got them to admit to killing Chris when he was injured in the accident — which viewers saw in flashbacks. It was startling for a number of reasons, the biggest of which is that Chris has become the most interesting character on the show.

Now, it seems, he’s gone.
As “Fear the Walking Dead” bounces between entertaining and tedious, he was the character to watch as he indulged his dark side and became a true child of the zombie apocalypse. Of course, should this death stick there’s no way viewers are going to see that come into fruition.
It’s unfortunate, as the best moments of Season 2 were intricately tied to Chris and his evolution in this new world. Without that, a major point of interest from the show is now missing.

“Fear” did attempt to rectify that though, by fundamentally changing Travis. After learning of his son’s death, the calm and stoic father of the group beat the two men to death. This was a snapping point long in the making for Travis, but is it one that will be as interesting to watch as his son’s was?
That’s something we’re going to have to wait until Season 3 to find out. Still, this is “Fear the Walking Dead.” Until Travis and the rest of the crew actually find Chris’s body, there’s no telling if he’s actually dead.
