Has Disney Changed ‘Star Wars’ Fan Favorite Slave 1 to ‘Boba

Boba Fett’s iconic area ship has been part of “Star Wars” lore virtually so long as Boba Fett has — you’ll acknowledge it because the distinctive ship the bounty hunter escaped with frozen-in-carbonite Han Solo in “The Empire Strikes Back,” which we discovered in “Attack of the Clones” that he inherited from his dad/clone gene supply Jango Fett.

And ever since its debut in 1980 it’s been recognized in “Star Wars” media and toys as “Slave-1.” But it seems like followers are going to need to get used to calling it one thing much more generic than that shifting ahead. Because over the weekend, Lego revealed three new “Stars Wars” playsets, considered one of them primarily based on Slave 1. The kicker is the brand new toy is now recognized, reasonably blandly, as “Boba Fett’s Starship.”

Fan website Jedi News, which first reported the information, spoke with LEGO designers Jens Kronvold Frederiksen and Michael Lee Stockwell, who confirmed the identify was modified on the behest of Disney.

“We’re not calling it Slave I anymore,” LEGO Star Wars Lead Designer Michael Lee Stockwell stated. “This is Boba Fett’s Starship.”

“Everybody is (dropping the Slave 1 name),” added Frederiksen. “It’s probably not something which has been announced publicly but it is just something that Disney doesn’t want to use any more.”

Slave 1 was most not too long ago seen within the second season of “The Mandalorian” and is assumed to be current in upcoming Disney+ present “The Book of Boba Fett.” Though presumably it’ll be “Boba Fett’s space ship” or, when he’s speaking, “my space ship.” Cool.

Representatives for Disney and Lucasfilm didn’t reply to TheWrap’s request for remark.
