‘HTGAWM’: What put that Mona Lisa smile on Annalise’s face in new key art?

Zap2it has an exclusive first look at the key art for “How to Get Away with Murder” Season 3, and it has us wondering what’s got Annalise Keating (Viola Davis) so smiley? And if you’re thinking to yourself, “That’s not a smile,” remember that that’s about as smiley as Annalise gets on the show.

Considering all she’s been through — being shot, blackmailed and hit by a car in Season 2 — you wouldn’t expect Annalise to have it together in Season 3, let alone keeping her cool with a sassy smirk on her face.

So far, details are scarce about Season 3 of “How to Get Away with Murder.” The lead sheet for the season says that as the group “struggles to move on with their lives and focus on their clients, their past continues to haunt them.”

“With Wallace Mahoney’s (Adam Arkin) murder unsolved and Frank’s (Charlie Weber) whereabouts still unknown, Annalise and her inner circle struggle to keep their secrets from getting exposed. Relationships will be fractured, lies will spin out of control, and a shocking, new mystery will upend their entire lives.”

There are also a few casting additions — “Dexter” alum Lauren Velez has been slated to play the president of Middleton University, and Amy Madigan and Esai Morales will have mysterious guest roles in the new season.

Who’s to say which of these new characters will put a smile on Annalise’s face, but we’re willing to bet that at least one of them will bring out her “angry Annalise” stare.

“How to Get Away with Murder” returns Sept. 22 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
