What about you — where you goin’ when you free?
Ain’t about a place no more…
It’s this exchange, featured in the above Season 2 trailer for “Underground,” that helps define the motivations of the Macon 7’s surviving members. With a month left until the WGN America’s highly accomplished series returns, it’s that varied definition of freedom that will push the envelope forward — upping the ante to levels not yet seen on the show.

With a running time of just two minutes, the new clip gives a better understanding of where Rosalee (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), Noah (Aldis Hodge), Ernestine (Amirah Vann) and Cato (Alano Miller) have ended up.
It’s clear that Noah’s imprisonment is the real catalyst in bringing Rosalee back into the fight — without her family, she’s lost — but the introduction of Harriet Tubman (Aisha Hinds) is going to play a huge part in her character’s shift from slave to outlaw. He may have lead the race to freedom in Season 1, but now it’s Rosalee’s turn to come to Noah’s aid.
But while Rosalee and Harriet have come together with a common mission, it’s looking like Patty Cannon (Sadie Stratton) — one of the most violent slave catchers in American history — is setting her sights on “the most notorious runaway.”
As for Ernestine, something tells us she’s dealing with her own dark demons from her past. Getting revenge for Sam’s (Johnny Ray Gill) lynching — murdering her lover/owner has probably done a huge number on her — already put her in a trying place. From the looks of things, Ernestine is going to have a deep hole to climb out from.
The last time we saw Cato (Alano Miller), he came into a decent sum of money. While we’re not exactly sure what he’s fighting for — or why — something tells us his newfound riches has further enabled his confident bravado. When Rosalee, Noah and Cato eventually reunite, we have a sneaking suspicion things won’t be all sunshine and roses.
