On Tuesday, Jean Claude Van Damme suffered a minor heart attack on the New Orleans set of his new movie.
A day after celebrating his 50th birthday on Monday, the Belgian martial arts star collapsed on the set of the upcoming action-drama Weapon and was briefly hospitalized, according to a scoop from TwitchFilm.net. Van Damme plays an assassin who teams up with a rival to beat a drug cartel set up by the DEA. The bulked-up action man was in the first hours of a three-day shoot in the Gulf Coast city when he was struck down by the attack.
With wife Glady Portugues at his side, Van Damme was given the all-clear by doctors before heading home to Belgium to recover. The star is expected to make a full recovery.
“He is okay,” Van Damme’s rep assured fans as news of the mild heart attack hit the Interwebs late Tuesday.
In the meantime, Weapon production has stalled as Jean recuperates. No word on when shooting will resume. The movie is set to open in 2011.
