Lindsay Lohan’s alleged jewellery theft case has been adjourned till next week.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, which was handed the case by the Los Angeles Police Department, has confirmed that the district attorney (DA) will not be coming to a decision on whether or not to prosecute the 24-year-old actress for allegedly stealing a “high-end necklace” worth $2,500 before the weekend.

Contactmusic.com reports the DA will either file a felony grand theft charge, which could see the “Machete” actress return to prison for a third time.

Los Angeles police department detectives initially obtained a warrant to search the troubled star’s Venice Beach home on Tuesday after store owners became concerned about the whereabouts of the necklace, which is believed to be worth $2,500.

Lindsay has reportedly claimed she borrowed the necklace with the consent of the owner of jewellery store Kamofie & Company.

Her father Michael Lohan said: “This has been a very stressful time, none of us need this added stress to our lives. I’m not going to let people continue to distort things. Lindsay never stole a necklace.”

Lindsay was released from a three-month court-ordered rehab stay in early January and is currently on probation until her next court hearing Feb 24.
