Movie News: 'Spotlight' Writer Tom McCarthy Tapped for Disney's 'Christophe…

Christopher Robin: Tom McCarthy, who won an Academy Award for cowriting Spotlight (above), will write a new draft of the screenplay for Disney’s Christopher Robin. The live-action fantasy will follow the boy from Winnie the Pooh who is now grown up with work and family issues. Marc Forster (World War Z) came on board to direct in November; Alex Ross Perry (Queen of Earth) wrote the first draft of the script. [The Tracking Board]

 

Tron 3: Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy, above) says that a third installment in the Tron series “is in cryogenic freeze … waiting for the right time to move forward. … Disney stock is flushed with really successful properties right now. But that doesn’t mean we won’t see one at one point.” The director says that the proposed sequel would have been “an invasion movie from inside the machine coming out,” with the action divided between the real world and the world of Tron. Ghost in the Shell TV Spot: A new TV spot for Ghost in the Shell begins with Scarlett Johansson learning that she has been gifted with a new body. Michael Pitt, Juliette Binoche and Takeshi Kitano also star; the movie will open in wide release on March 31. [Movieclips]
