New ‘Star Wars’ Feature in Development With ‘Sleight’


“Sleight” filmmaker J.D. Dillard and “Luke Cage” author Matt Owens have been tapped to develop a brand new “Star Wars” challenge, in response to a person with information of the challenge.

At press time, it’s unclear whether or not this new “Star Wars” challenge is a theatrical or Disney+ launch.

As all the time with all issues “Star Wars” associated, plot particulars are being saved below wraps by Jawas on the planet Tatooine. Should the brand new “Star Wars” challenge transfer ahead, it’s unclear if Dillard would direct. This new challenge can be unrelated to the opposite “Star Wars” initiatives being developed “The Last Jedi” director Rian Johnson and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige.

As Disney plots the way forward for “Star Wars” following “Rise of Skywalker,” Disney CEO Bob Iger stated the studio might look to Disney+ characters, which can little question get followers excited over the potential for getting “Baby Yoda: A Star Wars Story.” During a current episode of the YouTube collection, “The Star Wars Show,” Iger talked about that the way forward for “Star Wars” is multi-platform.

“I love the ability to really be agnostic in terms of what platform it’s being made for,” Iger stated. “And so it could be, down the road, that a TV show becomes a movie and a movie becomes a TV series. I’m not making any announcements here or not, but I think it’s important for us to be agnostic.”

“I don’t look at it as just television, I look at it as an extension of ‘Star Wars’ storytelling,” Iger added. “What Disney+ has given us the ability to do is to do just that, is to bring ‘Star Wars’ to people in new ways, and to bring new ‘Star Wars’ to people. It’s not the same places or the same characters. Just look at ‘Mandalorian.’ While, obviously, there’s a lot shared, there’s a lot that’s really fresh, and I love that.”

The subsequent theatrical “Star Wars” films are at the moment dated for Dec. 16, 2022, with different entries deliberate in Dec. 2024 and Dec. 2026.

Dillard first made a splash at Sundance together with his 2016 style thriller “Sleight,” which was acquired by Focus. This is just not Dillard’s first time engaged on “Star Wars” as he labored in a manufacturing capability on 2015’s “The Force Awakens” and performed a stormtrooper in “Rise of Skywalker.” He is repped by CAA, Circle of Confusion, and regulation agency Ginsburg Daniels.

Owens is at the moment co-writing a live-action adaptation of the “One Piece” manga for Netflix. He is repped by CAA and Circle of Confusion.

Disney and Lucasfilm declined to remark.
