‘Scream Queens’ killer theory ruminates on Jane and the baby

“Scream Queens” Season 2 has officially scrubbed in, airing two episodes before taking a one-week hiatus for the vice presidential debate — which we thought was the perfect time to take a look at the story so far and put forth a theory about the Green Meanie killer. But be warned: Don’t keep reading if you haven’t seen the first two episodes

Nurse Hoffel = Jane

One of the new characters in Season 2 is Ingrid Hoffel (Kirstie Alley), a nurse at the C.U.R.E. Institute. She’s definitely up to more than spying on the Chanels for Cathy Munsch (Jamie Lee Curtis), because she has been seen both appearing in the basement when Zayday (Keke Palmer) and Chamberlain (James Earl) were researching the 1986 hospital massacre and also eavesdropping on Munsch.

Jane (Trilby Glover) is the pregnant woman from 1985 whose husband was dumped in the swamp by Dr. Mike (Jerry O’Connell) and Nurse Thomas (Laura Bell Bundy).

Would it be at all a surprise if it turns out Hoffel is actually Jane with a name change? She donned the costume in 1986 to get revenge on the people who killed her husband and now she’s at it again 31 years later?

The baby

This one’s a little trickier. In the flashback, Bill (Jeremy Batiste) asks Jane how their “son” is doing, implying that they are having a boy. If that was the case, Chamberlain looks like a pretty good suspect to be the grown-up baby, helping his mom terrorize the hospital. But maybe he’s too obvious.

Dr. Cassidy Cascade (Taylor Lautner) cannot be ruled out. He’s could definitely be 31 years old, he’s new to the show and we know very little about his backstory up to now. He would also fit the “son” comment and is less obvious than Chamberlain.

However, 30+ years ago, ultrasounds to determine the baby’s sex weren’t as common as they are today, so maybe Jane and Bill only thought they were having a boy and didn’t know for sure. Ultrasounds can also be wrong.

So maybe the baby was a girl. She could be someone we haven’t met yet … or she could be Zayday.

Think about it — we don’t know anything about Zayday’s background except an unnamed/unseen grandmother she mentioned several times in Season 1. That doesn’t disqualify her from being Jane and BIll’s baby. She’s not the right age … supposedly. But we’ve never had any kind of confirmation of how old Zayday is.

It might also explain how Hester (Lea Michele) seems to know so much about what’s going on. If Hester found out all about Zayday in Season 1, she could have connected the dots now and realized that Zayday is the Green Meanie (one of them). It would also be hilarious if after all her insisting that Zayday is a killer, Denise Hemphill (Niecy Nash) turned out to be right.

The likelihood of this theory

Parts of this theory — Nurse Hoffel, Chamberlain — seem a little obvious, especially since it’s so early in the season. But a Hoffel/Cascade or Hoffel/Zayday duo would come as a much bigger surprise, so maybe we’re on to something.

Or maybe we’re right about it being Jane and the baby, but we haven’t met Jane and/or the grown-up child yet, and Hoffel and Chamberlain are red herrings.

The only general problem is that a grown-up child out for revenge for losing a parent is almost exactly what the show did in Season 1, so is that really what the show would do in Season 2?

“Scream Queens” returns with “Handidates” on Oct. 11, where we meet Lynn Johnstone (Alec Mapa), the sole survivor from the 1986 massacre.
