It’s hard to say what was happening with “Scream Queens” like 80 percent of the time this season. Where Season 1 was ridiculous-but-funny satire, the sophomore outing went ’round the bend into just straight-up ridiculousness and the finale was no exception.
The wedding? Zayday’s (Keke Palmer) anti-climactic return? Nurse Hoffel’s (Kirstie Alley) incredibly lame death scene? They all had us like:
But the last five minutes managed to save the episode insofar that if the show manages to return — and that is a big “if” — the Season 2 finale left a great storyline for Season 3.
RELATED: ‘Scream Queens’ must return because psycho Lea Michele is the best Lea Michele
Apparently Dr. Holt (John Stamos) and Hester (Lea Michele) are now filthy rich serial killers who hunt tourists on Blood Island, which sounds like it has Season 3 written all over it. C’mon, who wouldn’t watch some insane, Ryan Murphy-fied version of “The Most Dangerous Game” meets “And Then There Were None”?
We would totally be there for that. One-hundred percent down. for. it.
Especially if the Red Devil gets involved, having offed Chanel Oberlin (Emma Roberts) like the final frames implied, and then it turns out to be Grace (Skyler Samuels) in the costume after she escapes the mental hospital.
Plus, all our favorite characters are still alive — Chanel Nos. 3 and 5 (Billie Lourd and Abigail Breslin), Dean Munsch (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Denise Hemphill (Niecy Nash). Surely a show this ridiculous can find a way to bring them into the fold on Blood Island, where everyone is being hunted by a new Red Devil. The season practically writes itself!
So, let’s make that happen, hmm? And we’ll all just pretend like Season 2 never did.
