Misfit NYPD detectives Gamble and Hoitz (Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg) are sentenced to life behind the desk. But when those guys go down for the count, opportunity knocks for Gamble and Hoitz. Stumbling onto what could be one of the biggest crimes in years, can The Other Guys step up their game to solve the case without killing each other and destroying NYC in the process? The Classic MLP!, May 29, 2007

This review is from: My Little Pony – The Movie (DVD)

I purchased MLP Season 1 and the movie was considered the first 5 episodes. I remember watching this when I was a kid and now have something that I can pass on that was “classic”. The animation is a little off, just for the reason that it’s older and it was out before digital animation became available. Although, I would have loved to have seen them put this out on DVD digitally remastered. Unfortunately, they did not, so we are forced to deal with the sometimes choppy animation.

Despite the fact that some of the ponies acted stubborn and bratty, they all come together in the end and make an example of what positive thinking and working together can do. Despite it’s age, I would recommend that anyone who has a little girl, or was a little girl in the 80’s watch this movie! I LOVE the MLP movie!!

Not the Greatest, but still Good, May 19, 2004
    By
geatornez82 “Cartoon Connoisseur” (Germantown, MD United States) –

I taped this movie from the Disney Channel, but my sister taped over my copy of it. This isn’t the greatest MLP cartoon in the bunch (my favorites are “Midnight Castle” and “Escape from Catrina”), but this one still had it’s moments.

The Witches from the Volcano of Gloom create the Smooze to destroy the Little Ponies and their spring festival, so they have to go get the Rainbow of Light, but it ends up buried in the Smooze, and they have to go find the Flutter Ponies. Also, some of the other ponies search for Baby Lickety Split who has run away, with Spike the Dragon.

    PROS:

The music and the songs are really good, I think. One of the best song numbers is “I’ll Do the Dirty Work” sung by Reeka and Draggle. Every time I see this routine, I crack up, along with “Nothing Can Stop the Smooze” with the Smooze doing a little 1950’s doo wop riff while the witches are singing. Another great song was “There’s Always Another Rainbow.” Not funny like the other two I mentioned, but still a great song.

The Moochick and his rabbit cracked me up. I love Tony Randall’s voice of the Moochick better than whoever did him in the MLP TV series. It just seems funnier to me.

Any scene with the Grundles, especially when the Grundle King mentions Grundleland.

Keep your eyes open during any scene with Reeka and Draggle. You’ll find little surprises along the way.

    CONS (reasons why I give this a 4 rather than a 5):
A lot of the scene changes were a bit choppy and seemed to come so fast.

The paint job on this seemed a bit washed out.

Baby Lickety Split was a brat, and I didn’t like Gusty’s personality all that much, even BEFORE she got Smoozed.

I didn’t particularly care for Buttons’s, Lofty’s, Baby Lickety Split’s, or Sundance’s voices. Having seen the MLP TV series before this movie, I think that explains it.

The end of the “I’ll Go it Alone” song, because the animation was a little odd there.

In some scenes, there are ponies that aren’t supposed to be there, and they mysteriously disappear later. Something comman in the TV series, too.

But other than the cons, this is a great movie. It’s really very cute! You will not regret it if you buy it.

    Good Memories, July 26, 2002

I used to have this movie, and I seriously regret the fact that my family taped over it. This is a fun film based on one of the all-time great 80’s cartoon series.

Three witches unlease the Smooze on Dream Valley in order to make it “dark, dank, and dreary.” The ponies bring Meghan, Danny, and Molly and their Rainbow locket to Ponyland to save them, but the Smooze manages to suck up the Rainbow of Light before a spell mishap puts it to sleep. The humans, a few ponies, and one brave bushwoolie search for help before the witches can awaken the Smooze and completely flood Ponyland. Meanwhile, Baby Lickety-Split and Spike run away and meet the Grundles before they reunite with everyone in Flutter Valley, home of the magic ponies that can defeat the Smooze. Lots of singing and neat adventures take place along the way.

It’s really a fun family movie, and there are lots of lessons that are learned along the way about teamwork, family, and keeping hope alive. The songs are great, particularly “Nothing Can Stop the Smooze,” if only for the back-up singing the Smooze heads do. Buy this movie, you won’t regret it.

TLC has never been this funny!, August 6, 2010

This review is from: The Other Guys (The Unrated Other Edition) (DVD)

I have not laughed this hard since “The Hangover”. This has to be the best comedy I have seen this summer, hands down. I only wish I could think of a TLC lyric to bring it all home. Does anyone remember “Waterfalls”? From the wooden gun to the non-stop one liners, I was rolling in the floor. Will Ferrell has not been this good since “Old School” and Mark Wahlberg was ever bit his comedic equal in this fantastic film. From Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson all the way to Michael Keaton, everyone was amazing. Whoever did the casting for this movie took a second seat to only one person, the writers. The script was drop dead hilarious.

Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg play two down and out cops? Mr. Ferrell seems to be stuck in his rut by his own choice and since I don’t want to give anything away, let’s just say that Mark Wahlberg made a colossal mistake to have found his way down to the lower levels of hell. Luckily the two of them are partners. Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson are the heroes of New York City but do to some unforeseen circumstances, they quickly relinquish their title. Wanting to seize the opportunity of the new opening for a hero, our two bumbling cops attempt to solve a very big case.

Apparently some guy has been constructing some buildings without getting a scaffolding permit. Are you kidding me? The two losers meander down to arrest him and fall into a very large case of fraud and an attempted robbery, of a very large nature. I am trying very hard not to give away any of the punch lines in this film but admittedly it is difficult to write this review without doing so, since I was laughing the entire movie. From driving the Prius into a bucket full of cocaine, all the way to being disgusted about the four homeless guys using it as a sex toy, I was laughing continually.

Have I said yet it was too damn funny, and this is coming from the guy who only a few months ago said Will Ferrell was washed up. Talk about eating your words. Even Eva Mendes was fabulous as the homely housewife of Will Ferrell that Mark Wahlberg couldn’t seem to stop ogling.

With some movies you see all the laughs crammed into the two minute commercial and when you see the full length feature there is nothing left. With this movie the commercial is only the tip of the iceberg. The explosion scene was funny but trust me, if you liked the commercials, you will flat out love the movie. Everyone in the theater was holding their stomachs from beginning to end.

This is a must see movie. It was absolutely incredible.

Absolutely gut busting hilarious!, August 7, 2010
    By
Stephen Ashley “Author of Walt Disney World w… (Florida, USA) –

This review is from: The Other Guys (The Unrated Other Edition) (DVD)

This is one of the funniest movies to come out in a very long time. Here’s why:

    1. The movie was filled with belly laughing funny bits that were surprising and not the typical cliche kind of stuff. I haven’t laughed this hard in ages.

    2. There was also a lot of subtle humor, also making this movie very entertaining.

    3. Will Ferrell was absolutely hilarious. That’s to be expected. What was so surprising was Mark Wahlberg. He was different from his normal hard as nails tough guy roles, and he played off of Ferrell just perfectly. He was so hilarious.

    4. Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson were perfect in their roles. They weren’t on for long, but they were part of some very funny bits. Michael Keaton also contributed some fun to the movie. Eva Mendes was perfectly cast. All in all, a superb cast that made for an uproariously funny comedy.

While there were periods that moved a bit slowly, that shouldn’t stop anyone from seeing this movie. The laughs more than made up for any slower times. Also, those slower periods set up some of the funniest bits later on, and they set up the story.

It was really relaxing to laugh so hard. I felt like I had a mini-vacation. I’d absolutely recommend this movie.
