‘The Walking Dead’: Will Maggie and Glenn survive Season 7?

There has been a lot of speculation and a whole load of rumors regarding who met Lucille at that final moment in the Season 6 finale of “The Walking Dead.” We have read everything from theories that have Daryl (Norman Reedus) dying to Michonne (Danai Gurira) biting the big one.

More and more, however, we’re thinking two important people will kick the bucket once Season 7 premieres … and it may just be everyone’s favorite couple: Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan).

How dare we suggest such a thing! It has to be Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) who receives Negan’s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) beating, right? Maybe not.

When AMC premiered the newest teaser for the upcoming season, fans everywhere began commenting on the appearance of what looks like Abraham fighting off a walker. If that’s him, that means he survived Negan.

Take a look at the clip below, roughly around the 21 second mark, and you’ll see what we mean.

Is that Abraham’s head? Possibly. It can also be another redhead with a bushy mustache. But the more important question is … does Abraham survive Negan’s wrath?

In a recent interview with PopSugar, Michael Cudlitz discusses the direction the new season takes. In the process, he seems to spoil that Abraham does indeed make it past the threat of Negan and Lucille:

“[Denise’s] death spurs on a whole bunch of other stuff, and then the audience knows that Abraham will continue for a while now. Now we get to see what a world with Negan and Abraham both in it will be like. That’s something we don’t see in the graphic novels.”

So, where does that leave us? Rick (Andrew Lincoln) will not die, obviously. The Internet will riot if Daryl (Norman Reedus) is killed. Michonne recently appeared in a new photo from the set. And while it’d be interesting to see Carl (Chandler Riggs) die, the eye injury he sustained in Season 6 opens up so many interesting possibilities for his story moving forward.

We just laid out some heavy hitters. There are others still to choose from, but for a season premiere death — especially after the disappointment felt after last season’s finale — the loss needs to have a very big impact. Cue your outrage, because we think Maggie and Glenn are going to die.

We agree that it’d be pretty messed up to watch a pregnant woman be beaten to death on “The Walking Dead,” but it looks like that may be the direction they have taken. If anything, that would be one bold move that would rock the TV world and leave everyone talking.

Further adding fuel to the fire is Greg Nicotero’s recent interview with EW. In the chat, he speaks on the lengths the production has taken to maintain the secrecy behind the cliffhanger. Yet, in his attempt to keep things under wraps, he may have let one major detail out of the bag.

I don’t think we would have changed anything. I would have still supported doing it the way that we did it, because of the fact that the story doesn’t end there. If we would have shown the deaths, then they wouldn’t have felt our characters in season 7 the way they need to. And the thing that I think a lot of people will get out of it is how that moment changes the entire makeup of our universe within a split second. And it’s that moment that launches our entire season 7 into that direction.

Notice how Nicotero refers to more than one death in the Season 7 opener? It’d have to be a moment that is so impactful to alter “the entire makeup” of the show’s universe. What if Maggie met her maker only to find Glenn race to her aid? If that happens, the probability of Glenn making it out alive is very slim.

A quick glance at recent activity on the Instagram feeds of both Lauren Cohan and Steven Yeun, shows them nowhere near “The Walking Dead” set. That could mean nothing. Or it could mean everything. You be the judge.
