TV Rewind: ‘PLL’ ‘Can You Hear Me Now?’: Ezra is the new creepiest dude

With only 10 episodes left — and six months before they premiere — Screener wants to take a look back through the twisty mysteries and tangled lives of everyone’s favorite “Pretty Little Liars.” So join us daily as we revisit Rosewood of old. The entire show is streaming on Netflix if you’d like to watch the episodes for yourselves.

Up next: Season 1, episode 4, “Can You Hear Me Now?” aired June 29, 2010.

What we knew then …

This episode is mostly about relationships, so there is very little movement on the “A” front.

But we do find out Hanna’s (Ashley Benson) dad Tom (Roark Critchlow) is engaged to Isabel (Heather Mazur), who brings Hanna’s stepsister-to-be Kate (Natalie Floyd) with her.

And the big news is that Ella (Holly Marie Combs) gets her first “A” message, detailing Byron’s (Chad Lowe) affair with Meredith and that Aria (Lucy Hale) knew about it.

What we know now …

In what appears to be a genuinely good moment from Alison (Sasha Pieterse), the queen bee insists that Aria tell her mom what they saw in the flashback to Byron’s car.

“You can’t do that to your mom. You have to tell her, Aria, before somebody else does and you lose both of them,” says Alison, though we all know she later starts blackmailing Byron over the Meredith thing, sooooo … guess she wasn’t that concerned about Aria and her mom after all.

Also, “A” (a.k.a. Mona) was hiding in Spencer’s closet when the girls discovered the lipstick message.

Hindsight hilarity …

Kate gets a major upgrade in both the “Mean Girl” department and the fashion department when she goes from being played by Natalie Floyd in Season 1 to Natalie Hall in Season 2.

Creepiest dude award goes to …

It’s a dead heat between Hanna’s dad and Mr. Fitz (Ian Harding).

Hanna’s dad is super crappy from start to finish and it’s heartbreaking to watch how disappointed Hanna is. First, he uninvites Ashley (Laura Leighton) to dinner when she clearly thought she was invited, then he springs his new fiancee and stepdaughter on Hanna — like, maybe you should have told her you were engaged when you GOT ENGAGED.

Lastly, when he doesn’t like how Hanna is behaving at dinner, he brings up how she’ll have to work off the damage to Sean’s (Chuck Hittinger) car right in front of Isabel and Kate. He’s awful.

However, Ezra gets super possessive of Aria, needlessly barking at some kid in class because the kid dares to interrupt his intense eye contact-fest with his underage paramour — and doing some Judd Nelson-worthy nostril flaring.

He also insists he doesn’t see her as a child while simultaneously treating her like an immature child who doesn’t understand things while also simultaneously cooking her dinner in his apartment.

Dude. Get control of yourself, skeaze. Also, that true crime novel isn’t going to write itself, maybe you should remember what you are apparently supposed to be doing.

Runner-up goes to Wren (Julian Morris) for breaking into Spencer’s house to give her a plant, though he’s so adorable about it it’s hard to be too creeped out.
