Weekend Update: Duncan Jones’ Next Film Announced, Ryan Reynolds Wanted for ‘Highlander’ Remake and More

Duncan Jones to Direct Ian Fleming Biopic: Moon director Duncan Jones has announced plans to follow up his two sci-fi films (Moon, Source Code) with a film about James Bond creator Ian Fleming, whose real-life story prior to writing his iconic James Bond novels was at times just as action-packed and thrilling as the character he later went on to create. Says Jones, “Fleming lived through one of the most perilous periods in world history, in a position that allowed him a unique vantage point of all the players, all the stakes.  He witnesses true heroism first-hand.  And he saw the evil men could do.  Then, when the war ended, he went off to write fiction. The essential question for me is; where did Ian Fleming end and Bond begin?” Jones is now casting the film, which will be based on the Fleming biography, Ian Fleming, The Man Behind James Bond. Ryan Reynolds Wanted for Highlander: Early talks have begun for Ryan Reynolds to star in Summit Entertainment’s upcoming Highlander remake. The original 1986 fantasy film about clashing immortal Scottish swordsmen spawned several sequels and has a pretty extensive built-in fanbase, though they’ll have to work out some of the 80’s cheese and bring the property up to date in a more modern blockbustery way. Will Reynolds find a franchise to call his own? Is this it? [via Variety]

The film covers Jobs from his early years as an impressionable youth and wayward hippie, through his initial successes and infamous ousting, to his storybook return and ultimate triumphs as a man who set out to change the world and did just that.” [via press release]

Robin Williams is Angry in Brooklyn: Robin Williams, Mila Kunis, Peter Dinklage, Melissa Leo and James Earl Jones will star in the comedy The Angriest Man in Brooklyn, about a “stand-in doctor who mistakenly tells an obnoxious patient he has 90 minutes to live. The medic tries desperately to locate the man after her comments sends him on a contrite tour of the city to right all the wrongs in his life.” [via Screen Daily]

Bill Murray on Hudson: Finally, here’s the trailer for Hyde Park on Hudson, starring Bill Murray in what may be an awards-calibar role as President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Set in 1939 and co-starring Laura Linney, the film tracks the real-life events that transpired when the Roosevelt hosted the King and Queen of England for a weekend at his home in upstate New York.
