What ‘Gotham’s’ new cast portraits tell us about Season 3

'Gotham'

Highlight on New Movie Released DVD

“Gotham” Season 3 isn’t very far away and when the series returns things will be very different from where they left off. As Ben McKenzie previously revealed, there will be a six-month time jump, with Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) and the monsters wreaking havoc on Gotham City.

What else is there to know about Season 3, though? Luckily, FOX has released a new cast of cast portraits, which shed a little light on some of the things you can expect.

Jim Gordon is getting really dark

Ben McKenzie on 'Gotham'

As McKenzie revealed, Jim is going to start out Season 3 as a bounty hunter — complete with a leather jacket and a new attitude. While he isn’t rocking leather in his Season 3 portrait, it’s clear that this is going to be a dark year for Jim — fashion-wise. Chances are it’s going to be dark story-wise, as well.

Bruce Wayne is channeling his inner-Michael Keaton

David Mazouz and Michael Keaton

“Gotham” has been very clear about the inspiration it takes from Tim Burton’s “Batman” and “Batman Returns,” with music choices, casting and characters often having traces back to those films. Now it’s informing Bruce’s look, heading into Season 3. In his portrait, David Mazouz is wearing a black turtleneck that looks like it could have been pulled right out of Michael Keaton’s “Batman” closet.

As Bruce gets older, it’ll be interesting to see how his character matures. Hopefully he ends up with glasses like Keaton at some point, though.

The Riddler is coming

Cory Michael Smith on 'Gotham'

Sure, you already know Ed Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) is on the show and has lost his mind, edging closer and closer to the Riddler you know and love. There’s a special something hidden in Ed’s portrait, though. Look closely at his tie clip and you’ll see a question mark peeking back at you.

Perhaps this will be the season Ed adopts his alter ego once and for all.

Take a look at the rest of the Season 3 portraits below. “Gotham” returns Monday, Sept. 19, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.
