A broad, dark, semi-romantic comedy about the end of the world? From a first-time director? Starring Steve Carell and Keira Knightley?

I was skeptical too. And then I watched this rather provocative trailer for Lorene Scafaria’s Seeking a Friend for the End of the World — and now I can’t wait to see the flick. The premise is enticing enough (the world is ending in three weeks, so two mismatched neighbors take a road trip to find their estranged loved ones), and the leads look fun, plus Ms. Scafaria’s last screenplay was the truly enjoyable Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist … plus this supporting cast: Adam Brody, Patton Oswalt, Derek Luke, T.J. Miller, Connie Britton, William Petersen, etc.

Too bad this one doesn’t open until June. Thanks to slashfilm for the pointer.
