‘Shadowhunters’: Why does Jocelyn want to kill Jace?

Highlight on New Movie Released DVD

Things are getting crazy on “Shadowhunters” Season 2, which is impressive considering how many life-changing revelations took place in Season 1.

If you were expecting a happy family reunion between Jace (Dominic Sherwood) and Jocelyn (Maxim Roy) now that she is awake and walking around again, you should probably take a seat and hold on tight. For some reason, Jocelyn has murder on the brain, and her target is young, blonde and overflowing with demon blood.

We can’t pretend that the revelation that Valentine (Alan Van Sprang) injected Jocelyn with demon blood infusions while she was pregnant with Jace doesn’t have something to do with her sudden urge to kill her son, but we sure as heck need more information than that. Does she even know about the demon blood? What kind of effect did it have on Jace? And worst of all, is it possible Jocelyn started that fire 20 years ago in an attempt to kill her son, Jonathan Christopher?

Normally, these kinds of questions would seem completely out of the realm of possibility, but on “Shadowhunters” nothing is off the table.

We’re also curious about Valentine’s decision to jump in front of the arrow meant for Jace. Sure, he wants his son on his side of things, but he doesn’t seem the type to sacrifice himself for anyone, let alone someone whose loyalty to him is at best begrudging. His endgame is still blurry, and the more time he spends with Jace, the more we’re worried Jace’s loyalties will shift.

Meanwhile, we’ve got a new shadowhunter to contend with at the Institute. Victor Aldertree (Nick Sagar) is on loan from the Clave to turn the Institute around and find Jace at any cost. Obviously Alec (Matthew Daddario), Clary (Katherine McNamara) and Izzy (Emeraude Toubia) are going to butt heads with this guy as the season progresses, especially considering he wants Jace found, dead or alive.

If Jace isn’t care — and Jocelyn remains unflagging in her efforts — he might end up as a casualty of this new war.

“Shadowhunters” airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Freeform.
