Fifty years ago there were close to half-a-million lions in Africa. Today there are around 20000. To make matters worse, lions, unlike elephants, which are far more numerous, have virtually no protection under government mandate or through international accords. This is the jumping-off point for a disturbing, well-researched and beautifully made cri de coeur from husband and wife team Dereck and Beverly Joubert, award-winning filmmakers from Botswana who have been Explorers-in-Residence at National Geographic for more than four years. Pointing to poaching as a primary threat while noting the lion’s pride of place on the list for eco-tourists-an industry that brings in 200 billion dollars per year worldwide-the Jouberts build a solid case for both the moral duty we have to protect lions (as well as other threatened “big cats,” tigers among them) and the economic sense such protection would make. Coming to theatres on February 18, 2011 Directed by: Dereck Joubert Narrated by: Jeremy Irons Video Rating: 4 / 5
lmfao, I had to run to IMDB just to see if that really was scar XD LOVE that it is X33 He is super talented when it comes to voice acting. Hell, I want to see this just because of him XD
@animalovergogreen yeah I know what you mean the saddest part to me was when that baby cub got his back broken and he was dragging himself by only his front arms. But overall this was and interesting film and I am glad I went to go see this and more importantly I am very happy I did something positive on earth day by helping these sweet creatures. I also rescued 2 turtles from the road today. Anyways thanks for seeing this film and helping these animals you should feel good about yourself I do.
I can’t stop watching this trailer. I come to it every day because it looks amazing and I can’t get enough of Jeremy Irons’ narrating so I hope I’m contributing a lot to these beautiful creatures by watching this a lot and gaining money for the number of views I’ve contributed! 🙂
Spread the video around, because Nat. Geo. receives 10 cents per view and they use that money to help save big cats from extinction. Thumbs up so others can see please.
This makes me now feel sorry for Scar. His voice is so intriguing, the accent, the tone… It’s almost like he’s bored and still full of malice. Like Mufasa had him make a documentary.
my teacher showed me this in class and said that just by watching this trailer we sent 10 cents to some organization or something to help save the lions….i got home and started watching this a million times…
@7ensewlew I really doubt if NG receives any cash just from viewing this trailer. Even if so, it wouldn’t be 10 cents per view, rather 10 cents per 1000 views.

pretty sad how 20 thousand lions only exist currently as of today and it takes them to create a film like this just to get people to start caring…
