When it was revealed that “Arrow’s” Season 5 big bad would be a dark archer named Prometheus — not the Prometheus from the comics — there were very few details about the creepy figure with a bow and a sword that was looking to bring pain and chaos to Star City.
Now there’s a bit more light to shed on the new villain, though. Executive producer Wendy Mericle tells Zap2it, “It does tie back to Season 1.”
“I will tell you that it’s going to be a shock to Oliver to find out who this guy is and what his backstory is,” she explains. “We really wanted Oliver [Stephen Amell] to have to reflect on who he was when he came back from the island. Specifically, also what legacy his father had left — his original mission. The thing he says when he comes back is ‘I want to right my father’s wrongs.’”

Has Oliver actually done that in his time as the Green Arrow and now the mayor of Star City? The answer is debatable, but with legacy being such a big theme in Season 5, it’s going to be one Oliver has to confront.
After all, with Prometheus having a tie to Season 1 and patterning himself after the Green Arrow, it’s very likely whoever he is, he was wronged by Oliver in some way. While he may be a well-respected vigilante in the streets now, there’s no arguing that the Arrow left a lot of dead bodies in his wake early in the show’s run.
Oliver isn’t the only one questioning his legacy, though.

“What’s fun about it is now we’re four years down the road, he can look back at that but so can Felicity and Diggle,” Mericle says. “Diggle is reflecting on the the relationship with his brother and Felicity … She just, no big deal, accidentally maybe blew up 20,000 people in Havenrock.”
The Havenrock incident is one that’s going to continue to haunt Felicity. “Living with that burden is huge for her,” Mericle says. “She has a deeper understanding now, I think, of what Oliver’s struggled with the last three or four years.”
“Arrow” returns Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
