Robin Hood: Origins: Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades of Grey, above) is in final negotiations to join Robin Hood: Origins. Taron Egerton is already set to star as Robin Hood, along with Jamie Foxx as Little John and Eve Hewson as Maid Marian. If things work out, Dornan will play Will Scarlet, who is Maid Marian’s husband in this version of the classic story. Otto Bathurst will direct. [THR]
Downton Abbey: The popular British TV series Downton Abbey concluded its run last year and since then, fans have been clamoring for a movie version. Now Maggie Smith, who just won an Emmy for her role, has signed on to the prospective project, according to fellow cast member Michael Fox. Series creator and writer Julian Fellowes says, “As far as I am concerned, I am completely up for it. Most of the cast are up for it.” [The Guardian]
Breed: Karyn Kusama (Jennifer’s Body, above; The Invitation) will direct Breed, a horror movie based on a novel by Chase Novak. She will team again with Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, who wrote The Invitation and are adapting Novak’s novel for the screen. The book follows a couple who turn to a controversial fertility clinic for help, only to be plagued by “nightmarish side effects” ten years later. [Variety]
London Town Trailer: Jonathan Rhys Meyers stars in the first trailer for London Town. He portrays Joe Strummer, lead singer of the influential British band The Clash. Set in the 1970s, the movie follows a young man whose life is changed after he is introduced to The Clash by his mother. Look for it in theaters on October 7. [Movieclips]
