Richard Attenborough: British actor and director Richard Attenborough has died, just shy of turning 91 years of age. His most notable film roles included turns as an incendiary punk in 1947’s trail-blazing Brighton Rock. a military leader in 1963’s The Great Escape, and a cuddly grandfather/misguided visionary in 1993’s Jurassic Park. Matthew McConaughey: After a series of critically-acclaimed roles (including Magic Mike, above), Matthew McConaughey is in big demand in Hollywood. The latest rumors involve him playing a villainous role as Randall Flag in the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand, as well as a starring turn in Gold, based on a true story about a scandalous discovery made in the Indonesian jungle, with Stephen Gaghan (Traffic) directing. The third installment in the series starring Jennifer Lawrence is heading to theaters on November 21, and in advance of its release, billboards have gone up in various locations, depicting so-called “district heroes” as determined by the authorities in the movies; note the graffiti: a “Mockingjay” symbol associated with Lawrence’s character.
