‘Scandal’ trailer promises explosions & elections

Highlight on New Movie Released DVD

Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) is back in all her monochromatic glory for another season of “Scandal” on ABC.

We finally have a premiere date for Season 6 of “Scandal,” and the trailer that goes along with it will definitely have us on the edge of our seats until Jan. 19, 2017 finally rolls around.

We’ll be getting a bit of a time jump in the new season, fast-forwarding to election night and blessedly sparing us from having to endure a scandalous fictional presidential election on top of the utterly ridiculous real-life election between Trump and Clinton. The stakes are just as high though, with Mellie (Bellamy Young) and Jake (Scott Foley) on the Republican ticket facing off against Francisco Vargas (Ricardo Chavira) and Cyrus (Jeff Perry) on the Democrat ticket.

Amidst all the shouting and Fitz-ing (Tony Goldwyn) and exploding, the trailer delivers a great — and seriously tense — moment between Olivia and Mellie. Could this presidential race have turned sour since Mellie apparently wants to give up?

We’re going to guess not. As much as we found ourselves rooting for Vargas in Season 5, we’re still cautiously optimistic that Mellie will come out of this election on top. Go figure.

The excitement doesn’t end there, however, since we also now know that “Grey’s Anatomy” and “How to Get Away with Murder” will be returning on the same night, giving us back the popcorn and wine-filled #TGIT we’ve missed so much.

“Scandal” returns Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
