Sorry, the next ‘Bachelor’ will not be Luke or Chase and here’s why

While “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette” have a long running trend of poaching their next star from the previous group of jilted lovers, this upcoming season may be the time ABC breaks from that string along model. On Monday night’s (July 25) episode, JoJo Fletcher narrowed down her suitors to two men: Robby Hayes and Jordan Rodgers, leaving audiences heartbroken after the surprise swift goodbye to Luke Pell, and reeling after Chase McNary got blue-balled in the fantasy suite.

Now, everyone seems to believe that either Chase or Luke is destined to become the next “Bachelor.” E! Online spoke with Luke while he was in town taping the “Men Tell All” special in Los Angeles a few weeks ago and he says, “It’s a possibility. I would definitely not pass on it!” And he’s not wasting anytime jump starting his own campaign. “JoJo kind of allowed me to love again. This process worked for me. I’m at place now where I’m excited to be in love.”

We hear ya loud and clear, Luke.

Chase, however, was a bit more hesitant about the idea. “You’re put in the microscope of America, and that’s scary. I wasn’t exactly the most open guy about my feelings, and going into being ‘The Bachelor,’ is something I would definitely have to work on.”

Um. That’s an understatement. There’s a reason we’ve been calling him Chase the Robot this entire season.

We’re sorry to say this but neither of these men should be named the next “Bachelor.” While Luke is one of the most handsome men on planet Earth, and Chase seems like a cool dude, neither of them have the personality to be the backbone of an entire show. Luke and Chase would have to be surrounded by 26 of the most fascinating women to make their series even remotely entertaining.

Did anyone ever hear Luke crack a joke? He has no sense of humor. Women like — no, women love to laugh. So unless, producers are sticking this strapping war veteran into improv classes, audiences would be sitting through a series of awkward silent dates all throughout Season 21.

Chase would be even worse. We had to go back and look at the premiere’s photo to see if he had actually been there the entire time. He wins the award for cracking the best joke of the entire season asking, “Is this my fantasy suite?” upon entering the van after JoJo sent him packing, but there were more words in that one sentence than viewers heard him say though out the first five episodes combined. There’s nothing wrong with being the strong silent type, that is, unless you’re tapped to be the star of one of the highest rated reality TV series on cable.

It’s time for ABC to break rank and pluck a new gentleman to be the next “Bachelor.” Perhaps, take a note from “UnReal” and cast someone that isn’t white. Or at least someone with a personality whose job isn’t being a “former athlete.” Let’s find a real catch to take the reigns. And no, we’re not talking about Chad. The Chad will never ever be “The Bachelor.”
