‘The Vampire Diaries’ 100th episode: Nathaniel Buzolic would love to return as Kol

Although Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic) is among the Original siblings that are no longer with us (“Kol’s passed. We can say it, it’s OK,” Buzolic says with a laugh), this is “The Vampire Diaries” — the dead don’t always stay dead, and even if they do, that doesn’t mean we’ll never see them again.

If Buzolic has his way, we haven’t seen the last of Kol … even if it is just in flashbacks.

Zap2it caught up with Buzolic in Atlanta during “The Vampire Diaries” 100th episode celebration, and he revealed that he would absolutely be down for a return trip to Mystic Falls or New Orleans (his face made an appearance in “The Originals” pilot in a flashback). “I’d love to come back,” Buzolic says. “If the opportunity to come back did present itself, I’d jump at it.”

Unfortunately, Buzolic wouldn’t reveal whether or not that opportunity has presented itself yet. “Ask [executive producer] Julie Plec. She’s the only one who knows,” Buzolic says with a laugh. “Julie Plec has all the answers, and they actually tell me less than you think. I know nothing.”

Even though Buzolic is no longer on “The Vampire Diaries,” he was proud to have been a part of a series that made it to the 100-episode milestone. “It’s amazing,” Buzolic says. “It’s one of those things where it’s an honor to be a part of something that’s been able to last for so long, especially now when the nature of our business is that so many shows get the can after only one or two seasons.”

Whenever “The Vampire Diaries” finally does come to an end — but hopefully not for many years — Buzolic thinks it has the ability to live on. “It’s a really special show that I think even after the very last episode, it will continue to go on. It’s going to have that cult following for a very, very long time,” Buzolic says. “It has that staying power. A lot of people are going to be blowing the dust off of their DVDs in 30 years to come and still be watching it. It has that life to it. It’s nice to be a part of something that you know is going to last so much longer.”

Buzolic is also excited to see where the spinoff series “The Originals” goes in the future. “I actually just met the actress who plays Davina [Danielle Campbell], and she’s amazing. She’s just so incredible to watch,” Buzolic says. “They’ve cast that show extremely well. And I loved working with Joseph [Morgan] and Daniel [Gillies] as my brothers, so that’s a great incentive if I ever get to come back. I just think they’re great and what they do onscreen is always amazing.”

“The Vampire Diaries” 100th episode airs Thursday (Jan. 23) at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
