‘The Vampire Diaries’: Paul Wesley talks Steroline’s June Wedding

Highlight on New Movie Released DVD

The event we’ve all been waiting for is finally here: “The Vampire Diaries” Steroline June Wedding.

After breaking up and getting back together more times than we can count over the past few years, Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Caroline (Candice King) are finally about to walk down the aisle. Now if only Stefan’s ex, Katherine (Nina Dobrev) weren’t intent on blowing the entire event up in a fit of jealous rage…

With all the ups and downs of Season 8, we doubted more than a few times if this wedding would actually happen, but Paul Wesley says he always knew the show would fulfill the promise of a wedding they made when Stefan proposed to Caroline in the second episode of the season.

“Once you dangle that carrot, I kind of was like, ‘We’re going to have to get married here,'” Wesley says. “Julie [Plec] is way too nice of a person. You know, she wouldn’t do that.”

The wedding might not come as a shock to Wesley — but he did mention that Steroline’s runaway success, after years of Stefan and Elena’s (Nina Dobrev) whirlwind romance, was a surprise for him.

“Stefan and Elena were such the pair for, you know, so many years,” Wesley says, “And I never in a million years thought Caroline and Stefan would end up being, you know, that kind of — I don’t want to say true love, because I think true love can exist in many forms — but I never knew that they would be equally as powerful as a couple. So it was equally surprising to me.”

Stelena will always be iconic, but Steroline has definitely earned its moment in the sun after all these years. Let’s just hope their happily ever after isn’t ruined by interlopers.

With a surprise appearance from Kelly Donovan (Melinda Clarke) and the queen of hell on the loose, fans shouldn’t take anything for granted. “The Vampire Diaries” has promised us a major character death before the season is out, and everyone knows how deadly penultimate episodes can be — just ask Aunt Jenna (Sara Canning).

“The Vampire Diaries” airs Fridays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
