At the end of the movie every single person at the cinema was gob-smacked; half because they understood it, the other half because it put their brain through a cheese grater. Pitt, Penn and Chastain did great acting, but they were outclassed by the two boy actors.

Saw the movie. All I can safely tell you is that the main part of the story is set in the late 1950’s to early 1960’s however – and it’s a big however – the story covers a span of around 13.75 Billion years with some of the cast not having been seen for over 65-75 Million years. It pertains to the Kabbalistic Tree of Life, without any reference to Kabbalah in the movie.
