Watch Ben Affleck in New 'The Accountant' Trailer

The Accountant

In advance of the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, there was little doubt that Ben Affleck could deliver an excellent performance as the wealthy and powerful Bruce Wayne. But would he be credible as a superhero?

Almost everyone who saw the movie became a believer in Affleck’s transformative powers. It may sound easy — just put on a costume and let special effects experts and stunt doubles make up the difference — but Affleck remained credible and authentic, even when he wore a mask that covered up most of his face. That’s a testament to Affleck’s abilities as an actor, which he’s developed over more than 30 years in the entertainment business.

But actors have to prove themselves over and over again. Now the question is: can he play an unassuming yet brilliant math savant? The first trailer for The Accountant focused on the childhood of Affleck’s character, drawing direct parallels to his adult life, while suggesting that he’s more than just a numbers guy.

A new trailer takes some of the same footage and gives it a good spin by putting it into a slightly different context. New footage also gives additional context to the titular character’s actions, as well as introducing an important role for Anna Kendrick.

Anna Kendrick, who was only glimpsed briefly in the first trailer, is shown here initially approaching Affleck in a more relaxed setting. She gets to know Christian Wolff (Affleck) as a small-town accountant, without realizing that he secretly works for a variety of extremely dangerous criminal organizations.

We also see J.K. Simmons, who runs the Crime Enforcement Division for the U.S. Treasury Department. which is investigating Christian Wolff. Quicker looks at Jon Bernthal and Jeffrey Tambor are provided, raising the degree of intrigue even higher. John Lithgow also stars.

Gavin O’Connor directed; he’s probably best known for the boxing-themed familly drama Warrior, which featured Nick Nolte in an Academy Award-nominated performance. The Accountant looks like it will showcase good performances by Affleck and others in a surprising thriller. The movie will open in theaters on October 14.
