Watch the Trailer for An Absurd Chinese 'Mad Max' Knock-off, 'Virgin Road'

International copyright and trademark laws are a funny thing. There’s not much stopping someone from another country taking an original idea and replicating it as cheaply and as quickly as possible. This happens most often in the world of consumer products, where it’s relatively easy for someone to dupe, say, a brand name purse. But in this day and age it’s easy to ripoff pretty much anything, from a pair of shoes to an iPad and all the way up to a blockbuster movie that originally cost $150 million to make.

Judging by the first trailer, we’re going to guess Mad Sheila: Virgin Road cost a little less to make than Mad Max: Fury Road, but there’s no mistaking its, uh, inspiration. It’s a post-apocalyptic action movie about a woman who fights off a fleet of men in ridiculous cars and outfits in order to rescue a bunch of virgin women. Check it out.

Okay, maybe Mad Shelia, which will likely never, ever be released in the US, cost a lot less to make than even the first Mad Max. But that’s also kind of the crude charm behind these movies. Unlike a fake pair of shoes, they’re not trying to fool anyone into thinking they’re the real thing. Sure, every now and then a confused customer may rent a copy of Transmorphers thinking it’s Transformers, but for the most part these movies are just harmless nonsense. And as that above trailer shows, there should be a big, big emphasis on nonsense.
