6 Disney songs that MUST make the cut for the ‘OUAT’ musical episode

For a lot of TV shows, the obligatory musical episode can be kind of a campy nightmare. However, on “Once Upon a Time,” it could literally not be any more perfect — seeing as this show is largely based on Disney versions of classic fairytales, which tend to rely pretty heavily on musical elements.

According to TV Line, “Once Upon a Time” is planning a musical episode for its sixth season, meaning Storybrooke is about to get way more wonky. There’s no word on when this episode will air, only that it will be in the spring of 2017. We’ll be eagerly awaiting news of the who, when, where and how.

One thing we’re dying to know, however, is which songs will be incorporated into the musical episode. Some TV shows opt to write and compose their own songs (like “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”) while others perform covers of mainstream music (like “Grey’s Anatomy”). We’d be up for either — but “Once Upon a Time” has the distinct advantage of having access to the Disney vault. We could be in store for some serious Disney covers, and if so, we’d like to put in a few requests.

We’ve been waiting for poor Rumbelle to get back together for what seems like forever, and now we’ve finally got a small spark of hope that uniting to save their son could bring about a reconciliation for the couple. If they’re headed back to a good place romantically, we’d love to get another dance in, this time with someone singing along to “Tale as Old as Time.”

‘A Whole New World’ – Aladdin

“Once Upon a Time” introduced Aladdin (Deniz Akdeniz) and Jasmine (Karen David) in Season 6, and they did it with the typical Storybrooke style and flair. If the two conquering heroes return for the musical episode, we’ve GOT to hear them strike up a duet for “A Whole New World.”

‘Poor Unfortunate Souls’ – The Little Mermaid

C’mon — this one is a gimme! Rumple (Robert Carlyle) is the master of magical deals, and Ursula’s trickster deal-making number fits him perfectly. While we can’t imagine Rumple ever breaking into song and dance, this idea is just too good to pass up.

‘I See the Light’ – Tangled

Reaching into more recent Disney hits, we’ve always felt like Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) had kind of a Rapunzel & Flynn feel to them. If we’re going to see Captain Swan serenade each other with a Disney tune, this might be just the ticket.

We’ve got a new villain in town with Gideon’s (Giles Matthey) ominous entrance — and whatever he’s up to, we know it’s no good. Scar’s dastardly “Be Prepared” is kind of a catchall for any villainous endeavor, and we’d love to see it make an appearance on “Once Upon a Time.”

‘If I Never Knew You’ – Pocahontas

This one will undoubtedly make us cry if it happens — but it’s just such an amazing song. Regina and Robin (Lana Parrilla and Sean Maguire) have been unexpectedly reunited in Emma’s wish world, but we’re not expecting their reunion to be a lasting one. As they will undoubtedly say their tearful goodbyes, “If I Never Knew You” would be a touching tribute to their relationship.

“Once Upon a Time” returns Sunday, Mar. 5 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
