As the famous Frozen tune goes, “love is an open door,” but who will come walking in for Elsa? Idina Menzel has a theory.
The Broadway star behind the voice of the Disney character joined Tyler Oakley on his Ellen Digital Network show to talk all things Frozen.
However, there was one topic in particular on Oakley’s mind—Elsa’s theoretical girlfriend.
“There’s been speculation on the Internet about Elsa potentially being a lesbian,” he told Kristen Bell, the actress behind Elsa’s younger sister, Anna. “Can you confirm that?”
After Disney failed GLAAD’s LGBT report card, an online campaign for #GiveElsaAGirlfriend grew in the spring, encouraging filmmakers to make Elsa the first gay princess in the Disney empire in time for the upcoming sequel.
The star kept her lips zipped. “Whatever Elsa wants to do is up to her and it’s up to us to support her,” she said. Right on, Bell!
Co-star Menzel kept mum about the rumors, too. “I cannot confirm or deny,” she said while laughing. “If I tell you, I would have to kill you.”
“I think in Frozen 1, she was young so she’s still figuring stuff out,” Menzel reasoned. However, she did suggest a fellow Disney character Elsa could potentially date.
“Tinkerbell?” Menzel proposed. Just like Oakley, we certainly ship that couple!
