Last Christmas – director regrets mistake with trailer

Last Christmas director Paul Feig has admitted that he has some regrets over how a lot plot was revealed within the trailer, because it hinted too closely on the movie’s twist ending.

Written by Bryony Kimmings and Emma Thompson and primarily based on the discography of late musician George Michael, the holiday-themed romcom centres on unfortunate store assistant Kate (Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke).

“That made them go, ‘Oh?’ They understood the second layer of the film a little bit bit extra. It wasn’t simply going to be a frothy Christmas film.

“It made folks put money into [Emilia’s] character. Because, you understand, you do see her working round and lashing out and all that. So… I do not know. It’s laborious to say. Yeah, I wanted we hadn’t needed to put that in there. Marketing a film is so laborious.

Feig – who has helmed hits equivalent to Bridesmaids, Spy and A Simple Favour – went on to say that if he may “wave a magic wand” and make it in order that movies by no means should promote or launch trailers, then he would not hesitate.

“The only time an audience really has a pure experience with a film is when we do our test screenings, because they are brought in with a logline.”
