'The Monster' Trailer Unveils a New Horror Movie From the Director of 'The Stran…

There’s a funny thing that happens to some horror movies after they’re first released. They arrive and make a big splash. Everyone wants to get in on the fun, so they go and have a scary good time and tell all their friends to go and the cycle repeats. Then said movie heads to home video and lives a quieter after life, until a few years later when people start talking about it again and all of a sudden everyone acts like the movie never really scared them in the first place.

That’s kind of what happened to the original The Blair Witch Project, and it’s definitely what happened to The Strangers. When it hit in 2008, people loved it. It did exceptional at the box office both in the U.S. and abroad. It killed on home video. People were in to its simple and yet incredible effective story about a couple terrorized by masked individuals. These days, though, you’ll either find staunch supports who insist it’s still a scary movie or people who claim it was never that scary in the first place. Unfortunately that’s just how the horror cycle goes some times.

Time will tell if the same thing will happen to The Monster, a new movie from The Strangers director Bryan Bertino. It’s about a mother and daughter whose car gets besieged by some kind of monster after it crashes on an isolated backwoods road. Check out the first trailer below.
